J+S Announce development of Low Profile Arrays

J+S announce the development of a range of Low Profile Array (LPA) products including a series of novel hydrophones.

The Low Profiles Arrays will be available in static and towed configurations, with acoustic apertures of 1 to 32 channels and options up to 64. Module profiles as low as 15mm in diameter will be offered, with analogue or digital architectures interfaced via standard or miniature interface connectors.

Although designed principally to satisfy the requirements for low noise, high sensitivity, broadband hydrophones for low profile line arrays, the new range of LPA Hydrophones from J+S will be of interest to other sectors as well.

The novel design consists of an acceleration cancelling hydrophone element mounted in its own protective bulkhead, with a low noise, high gain, micro pre-amplified forming one end of the bulkhead.

The hydrophone design provides for a variety of mounting options, including assembly upon a flexible or rigid central or axial strain member.

The model photographed provides a sensitivity output of -170dB re 1V/uPa, a flat frequency response +/-1.5dB of <200Hz to >25kHz, a high pass filter of -3dB at 70Hz and at 5V supply draw of 2.5mA.  The noise floor, (referred to the pre-amp input) is -156dBVrms√Hz at 12.8kHz.
