J+S Defence - Naval

Naval

With a long history of support to the Royal Navy, we are now engaged primarily in four overlapping activities; obsolescence management, in-service equipment support, the design and development of systems and sub-systems, and the support of Royal Navy platforms sold overseas.

Obsolescence Management and Technology Insertion

  • With much ageing equipment still in service, we offer a complete obsolescence management and solution service to reduce future support costs.
  • We undertake bespoke obsolescence studies, pro-active monitoring and reporting, evaluation of identified obsolescence and cost benefit assessment of candidate solutions.
  • Our innovative designs incorporate new technology, future proofing features, equipment modification and reverse engineering.

In-service Equipment Support

Supporting Royal Navy equipment lies at the heart of our business and over the years we have matured and refined our service to meet the evolving priorities of our customers. From traditional Post Design Support and Repair contracts, to availability based Contractor Logistic Support arrangements, we can tailor our support offering to match the customers specific requirements. We deploy dedicated and experienced engineers, working within a mature support infrastructure to ensure the continued availability of complex military equipment.

  • Contractor Logistic Support – delivering long term cost savings to the customer by taking on the responsibility for equipment availability.
  • Mobile Support Staff – a mobile, dedicated in-service support team provide 24/7 coverage.
  • Post Design Services – introducing new technology to overcome component obsolescence and reduce through life costs.
  • Spares and Repairs – the provision of spare parts and the rectification of equipment defects is a key element of our in-service support offering.

We currently have long-term in-service support contracts with the UK MOD covering the following systems:

  • The Combat System Highway (CSH) on the T23 frigates, T42 destroyers, CVS and LPD's
  • The Sea Gnat Decoy launcher system
  • The Submarine Weapon Interconnector Sub-System (SWISS)
  • Underwater Telephones, Echosounders, Miscellaneous Sonar and associated equipment
  • S2046, S2031, S2054 Towed Arrays

Design and Development

Applying the full breadth of our system, mechanical, electronic, software and acoustic engineering skills we provide solutions to a range of naval sensor, communication, electro-mechanical test and simulation requirements,

  • Transducers and Hydrophones – we offer a comprehensive transducer design and manufacture capability, from single elements to entire arrays, bespoke design to technology insertion we can meet any customer requirement.
  • Electronic Cabinets – from complex missile test stands to electronic equipment enclosures we design and develop a range of structures and cabinets to meet stringent operating parameters.
  • Simulation and Stimulation – we develop simulators, stimulators and synthetic scenario models to expedite sub-system integration testing and acceptance.
  • Moulding and Encapsulation – applying state of the art thermoplastic injection moulding techniques, we produce high integrity cable terminations, pressure hull penetrators and specialist moudlings.
