International Navies
J+S is successfully growing its international naval business through the provision of in-service support and system solutions. We offer customers a cost effective and low risk alternative to big budget equipment procurements by delivering capable system solutions and upgrades based on proven Royal Navy systems. Our export business has been particularly successful in South East Asia and in those countries that have purchased de-commissioned Royal Navy platforms.
South East Asia
Emerging nations with increasing naval defence needs but limited budgets are turning to J+S for cost effective solutions to their equipment requirements. We offer incremental upgrade options and cost effective procurement solutions to many customer requirements, overcoming obsolescence and capability gaps in the process.
A particular focus for us is on providing lightweight, high performance systems for installation on OPV’s where deck space is limited. We currently offer effective deck mounted Torpedo and Countermeasure launch systems at a fraction of the cost of more sophisticated systems. We are also developing a low-profile Towed Array for littoral ASW and torpedo defence applications. Such a system requires small, light weight handling equipment ideally suited to the OPV market.
Ex-Royal Navy Platforms
Over many years, numerous countries have purchased de-commissioned Royal Navy ships and submarines and we have developed a strong track record of support to their new owners.
Furthermore, we can offer countries the latest equipment upgrades, confident that they have been de-risked and developed to meet the demands of the Royal Navy. In this way, the long term capability of their systems can be assured without incurring prohibitive engineering development and procurement costs.
We currently provide in-service support and system upgrades for the following:
- Victoria Class submarines in Canada
- Type 23 Frigates in Chile
- Type 22 frigates in Chile, Brazil and Romania
- Mine Countermeasure Vessels in Saudi Arabia
Rest of the World
Our equipment expertise and innovative products have relevance to all the navies in the world. Whether it is miniature acoustic components, lightweight ASW sensors or equipment upgardes to extend operational life, J+S has a solution.
Recent exports include:
- A major transducer re-design and supply contract for the Dutch Navy, ensuring the operational capability of the ASW sonar system on its M-Class Frigates for a further 15 years.
- Active sonar health check/near field monitoring system for the Indian Navy.
- Towed Array re-configiration for a European customer.
- Miniature hydrophones and transducers for a variety of specialist acoustic sensing applications such as AUV deployments.
