Defence
J+S is a broad-based engineering and asset support company with over 50 years experience of supplying specialist equipment and support services, primarily to the Royal Navy. Our expertise lies in providing holistic engineering solutions to a range of customer requirements, low volume manufacture of specialist products and the ongoing support of in-service equipment.
The UK Ministry of Defence and the major prime contractors that supply it have been our principle customers for many years but more recently we have become increasingly active in export markets pursuing opportunities arising as a result of Royal Navy fleet disposals and subsequent refit programmes as well as other opportunities.
Our business is focused around a number of discrete market segments including:-
- Sonar systems for both hull mounted and towed array applications
- Combat data management networks
- Weapons handling and discharge systems
- Electro-optical systems
- Bespoke sub-system design and build activities
For each of our core market segments we offer four complimentary and overlapping activities:
Supporting operational equipment lies at the heart of our business and over the years we have matured and refined our service to meet the evolving priorities of our customers. From traditional Post Design Support, provision of spares and repair contracts, to availability based Contractor Logistic Support arrangements; we tailor our support offering to match the customer’s specific requirements.
By applying the full breadth of our engineering skills we are able to deliver cost effective system upgrades and bespoke engineering solutions to customer requirements. Specific areas of expertise include
- Acoustic Engineering
- Electronic Cabinets/Enclosures
- Data Networks
- Simulation and Stimulation
- Obsolescence Management
With increasing pressure on defence budgets, our customer’s ability to extend the operational life of in-service equipment whilst reducing ongoing support costs and maintaining capability is crucial. Our obsolescence management service aims to do this through proactive strategies that identify looming obsolescence issues well before they occur and deliver cost effective solutions to overcome them.
Our manufacturing and production skills complement our design and development capabilities and together these two aspects of our business combine to provide a coherent engineering solution service. Our principle focus is on high-variety, low and medium volume production specialising in software, electronic, mechanical, cable, acoustic and integrated assemblies.
Where permitted, we can offer International Navies, low-cost equipment upgrades and products already de-risked and accepted into service by the Royal Navy. We have a particular focus on the Far East market and also support ex-Royal Navy platforms redeployed overseas.
