The Challenge
The Royal Netherlands Navy has been operating its M-Class (Karel Doorman) Multi-Purpose Frigates since the early 1990’s. In 2009 it embarked on a major mid-life update programme to extend the service life of these ships by a further 15 years. Amongst many system upgrade projects approved, was one to address its ASW capability. In particular, the RNLN wanted the outboard array of the hull mounted sonar to be modified by replacing all 192 PHS-36 transducers with reliable and easily supportable new ones.
The J+S solution to make CSH supportable and capable for the future.
The Challenge:
The Combat System Highway (CSH) is a robust and resilient LAN that distributes Combat System data in the form of messages, between weapons, sensors, command, control and communications equipment, on RN ships. J+S developed the CSH 25 years ago but due to the Type 23 Ship Life Extension Programme it required upgrading to ensure its utility to beyond 2030.
