Due to the harsh environments in which Wave & Tidal power generating devices are installed, it is becoming increasingly important to monitor strains & tensions that these devices are put under.  This assists the Wave & Tidal devices in working at the optimum power generating level without putting the device under stress and therefore assisting it's longevity.  This will become more important as technology develops and the industry moves into full scale arrays.
